STEM visit from Manchester Unviersity
Dr Akilu from Manchester University visited us in Year 4 to discuss our aspirations, and tell us all about what he does in the engineering department. He brought one of their many 3D printers and a computer along with him, so we could get a glimpse at what he does. He shared the steps they take to use the printer and told us about the different machinery they have. To support our tolerance beliefs and aspirations, we decided to create a yellow bumble bee with the printer. Dr Akilu was very generous, and ensured enough bees were created so every child in the year could take one home. A large bee was also printed at the University, and donated to the school - you can find this in the main hall!
Whitworth Art Galllery
We visited the Whitworth Art gallery to see paintings inspired by Refugees and their journeys. We worked in groups to plan our own journeys, and then created our image of it. We used a variety of materials on fabric, and then painted on top of them using brusho.
The children experience drumming sessions and learned some traditional Bolly dance moves. They spent the afternoon with two separate instructors learning, and then performed to their Key Stage and parents in our 'Praise Postcard' assembly.
