On stepping into the Early Years settings at St Chrysostom’s you will discover a ‘learning environment which is stimulating and well organised to promote imaginative play and provide children with purposeful activities across all areas of learning.’, Ofsted 2016.
The Early Years settings consists of a 45 place, full time Nursery and two 30 place Reception classes. Children start their school life in the Nursery the academic year they turn four and move into Reception the following year.
We believe that the Early Years is a vital foundation in establishing a love of learning while providing a safe learning environment where learners boldly attempt new challenges and take risks with confidence. Ofsted support this belief stating ‘Children enjoy exploring natural materials and developing their skills across all areas.’
The child centred ethos coupled with high expectations across the Early Years ensures that children are motivated and delight in exploring the range of activities available to them to expand their interests and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.
We are extremely proud of the ‘good levels of progress children make from their starting points and the proportion reaching a good level of development is typically in line with the national average. Children make rapid gains in their communication, language and literacy skills.’
Engagement with parents is very important in the St John Chrysostom Federation and parents are warmly welcomed at the beginning of the school day and encouraged to become active participants in their child’s school life. We serve a diverse community and value the importance of celebrating each other’s cultures and traditions which enables us to provide an enriched curriculum that promotes respect and tolerance.
