Our curriculum

At St John's we follow a creative, topic-based curriculum that is led by a key text. The objectives for our curriculum come from the National Curriculum 2014. We use Read, Write, Inc. in Reception as our sole approach to the teaching of phonics. Click the link below to see our long term curriculum for this year. We will soon be adding a medium term plan, which provides further detail. If you would like to know more, please visit our subject website pages or attend one of our school workshops or parent events such as Share the Learning, Class Assembly or Parents' Evening.

In Reception, we have many new and exciting things to learn; this will also include some fantastic enrichment activites and books.

Summer 1;-Where can we go next ?

Summer 2;- Who will we be?

This term we will be using a text-based approach to our literacy lessons. The books that will lead our learning are ‘Whatever next!’  by Jill Murphy and What do People Do All Day? By Richard Scarry.

These beautiful books will capture the imagination of all the children and drive our cross curricular learning.

Spring Term 2;- What lives around us?

We will be exploring farm animals and their babies .We will also be looking at Spring time and observing the changes around us.

In Maths we will being looking at how to estimate the number of objects we can see, and then checking by counting the objects. We will be adding two lots of objects together to find a total. We will also be looking at the difference between 2D and 3D shapes.

Our key text is, ‘Hattie peck; The Journey Home By Polly Dunbar' This is a a alovely story which teaches us the value of family .
