Curriculum

Our curriculum

At St John's we follow a creative, topic-based curriculum that is led by a key text. The objectives for our curriculum come from the National Curriculum 2014. We use Read, Write, Inc. in Reception as our sole approach to the teaching of phonics. Click the link below to see our long term curriculum for this year. We will soon be adding a medium term plan, which provides further detail. If you would like to know more, please visit our subject website pages or attend one of our school workshops or parent events such as Share the Learning, Class Assembly or Parents' Evening.

In Reception, we have many new and exciting things to learn; this will also include some fantastic enrichment activites and books.

Spring Term 1;- Who were we?

We will be exploring winter animals such as penguins. We will also be thinking about how we communicate with people and what makes a good friend.

In Maths we will being looking at how to estimate the number of objects we can see, and then checking by counting the objects. We will be adding two lots of objects together to find a total. We will also be looking at the difference between 2D and 3D shapes and capacity.

Our key text is, ‘Penguin’ By Polly Dunbar. This is a funny story, which teaches us the value of communication and friendship.
