Curriculum

Our curriculum

At St John's we follow a creative, topic-based curriculum that is led by a key text. The objectives for our curriculum come from the National Curriculum 2014. We use Read, Write, Inc. in Year 1 as our sole approach to the teaching of phonics. Click the link below to see our long term curriculum for this year. We will soon be adding a medium term plan, which provides further detail. If you would like to know more, please visit our subject website pages or attend one of our school workshops or parent events such as Share the Learning, Class Assembly or Parents' Evening.

Spring Term 2-Where Do We Live?

This half term, we will be following the journey of a tiny seed as it travels around the world and over a variety of terrains in our key text 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle.

In Science, we will become mini bontanists, learning how to identify and name of a selection of plants, including trees. We will also be learning to describe the basic structure of a plant, and we will discuss the similarities and differences between deciduous trees and evergreen trees.

We will be looking forwards to exploring seeds further in our Design and Technology lessons, as we will be using a variety of fruits to make some delicious fruit kebabs.
